Where Pico Iyer is my travel sensei, Rollins is my travel role model. He's fearless when it comes to travel. He loses his himself wherever he goes and no corner of the world seems to scare him.
His bravado is evident in this interview, but the greater, more surprising theme is his humility. He lets the places and people he meets speak for themselves and teach him in the process. Very insightful stuff.

ReplyDeleteI've recently come across a collection of Jim Harrison travel/sport/food critic essays called "Just before Dark" Most of them were written back in the early 70s. I think you will enjoy them.
